The Districts of Seoul have twenty-five gu ("districts"; hangeul: hanja: ). Songpa-gu is the most populated, while Seocho-gu has the largest area. Gu are similar to London's or New York's boroughs or Tokyo's 23 special wards. Each gu is further divided into dong or neighborhoods. Some gu have only a few dong while others (like Jongno-gu) have a very large number of distinct neighborhoods.

Here are 4 best neighborhoods to live during your stay in Seoul, South Korea!

   1. Gangnam Lifestyles of the rich and the famous

It is famous for its wealthier population and the higher standard of living.

Gangnam-gu is Seoul’s upscale, modern center, home to gleaming skyscrapers, designer brands and stylish nightclubs. Dining options span high-end restaurants to bars serving fried chicken and soju rice wine. Starfield COEX Mall draws visitors to its aquarium, while Seoul Arts Center has a design museum and a theater.

   2. Hongdae For the fashionistas and indie lovers

Located just minutes away from Hongik University and a short stroll away from Sinchon. It is known for its urban arts and indie music culture, local shops, clubs and entertainment. Hongdae is one of the best neighborhoods in Seoul for creative vibes.

   3. Itaewon For the party-people

Where my party people at? Itaewon!

This is the best neighborhood in Seoul to have a night out on the town. Sometimes known as the “Western Town” of Seoul, Itaewon is home to a large number of restaurants that feature international cuisine from every part of the world. Be prepared to shop (and haggle) and party your night away here at Itaewon with unique bars and clubs dotted around this neighborhood.

    4. Jamsil For the families and sports enthusiasts

Lakes, rides and a vertical city

If you’re looking for fun activities to do in Seoul with your family, there is no better neighbourhood to stay in than Jamsil!

For a breath of fresh air, try a relaxing walk around Seokchon Lake, which welcomes cherry blossoms each spring. Or get some adrenaline-spiking thrills at the amusement park rides on the island in the lake. Weekends usually see sports fans streaming out of the nearby baseball stadium and into the cluster of little bars and restaurants in the otherwise quiet streets of Jamsil.

Jamsil is also home to Lotte World Adventure, the largest indoor theme park in the world. For those well versed in the Kpop culture, Jamsil was also where PSY popularized his Gangnam Style moves and where the popular variety show Running Man was filmed.
